CCTO reroutes v-hires for South

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Transportation Office has implemented a rerouting scheme for south-bound vans-for-hire effective yesterday.

CCTO operations chief Jonathan Tumulak said that the new route will prevent these v-hires from passing downtown area to minimize the volume of vehicles traversing the busy thoroughfares.

Over 200 v-hires are using the temporary terminal near the Compania Maritima in Barangay Ermita after the city government closed the One Citilink terminal on July 28 for lack of permits.

Allowing them to use the old route which will traverse the Cebu South Coastal Road to and from the terminal and their destination will add to the traffic in the downtown area.

“Nihangyo man ang mga drivers pag-meeting nila ni mayor (Michael Rama) katong nibisita si mayor nga ipaagi sila ug schools,” Tumulak said.

With this, CCTO has formulated and implemented the new route for the south-bound v-hires so that they will pass through the streets that have schools and establishments since many of their passengers are students and workers.

For their new route, south-bound v-hires will traverse Natalio Bacalso Avenue, turn right to B. Aranas Extension, right turn to Carlock Street, left turn to Tupas Street, to Magallanes Street, right turn to D. Jakosalem Street, left turn to M.C. Briones Street, right turn to SRP Access, going to the temporary terminal near Compania Maritima.

“Para pud ma-minus ang traffic sa N. Bacalso Avenue, atong gipaagi sila sa B.Aranas Extension nga city road kay kaning dalana wala ma-utilize. Mag-observe mi ana og one week para makapangita og laing PUJ route nga makaagi sa B. Aranas aron makuhaan ang volume sa N.Bacalso,” Tumulak said.

CCTO has installed directional signs to guide and assist the v-hire drivers in their new route.

Tumulak said that traffic enforcers are deployed in the area to further assist the motorists and the commuters.

Meanwhile, the drivers of the Balamban route have yet to meet with the management of the Cebu North Bus Terminal to negotiate the request for transfer of the 40 v-hires.

CCTO has requested CNBT to accommodate the Balamban route v-hires to decongest the traffic in Cebu City thoroughfares. (FREEMAN)
