Store owner stabs thief

Grace Melanie L. Lacamiento - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines- A suspected thief died after he was stabbed by the owner of the store he tried to steal from in Sitio Lumbani, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City Saturday dawn.

Segred Pague, 18, succumbed to multiple stab wounds on the different parts of his body after he was stabbed by Rommel Castro, 44.

Police investigation conducted by the Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section showed that Pague allegedly attempted to steal from the store of Castro.

Police Officer 1 Reoful Adalim said that Castro already had doubts of someone stealing from his store since he already lost a plastic box full of coins on Wednesday.

Adalim said Castro then decided to sleep inside the store.

According to Adalim, Pague was caught in the act by Castro which eventually led to a fight.

Pague reportedly tried to escape but Castro was able to grab a knife and allegedly stabbed Pague.

Adalim said that Pague knows how to get inside the store since he was one of the workers who was hired to work on the extension of the store. Pague reportedly gained entry to the store by climbing up the roof and going through the ceiling.

Adalim added that Pague has records of theft in their barangay.

When the police arrived in the area, the victim was found lifeless inside the store.

The police recovered the kitchen knife allegedly used by Castro. The evidence was forwarded to the Regional Crime Lab 7.

Castro was immediately placed under arrest and is currently detained.

Adalim said that Castro may face charges for homicide, but added that they will still wait for the family of Pague if they will pursue filing charges.

The body of Pague was brought to Saint Francis Funeral Homes for autopsy.  (FREEMAN)
