Burglars strike Moalboal resort

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - At least P51,389 and $535 in cash were taken away by an unidentified burglars who barged into a beach resort in Saavedra, Moalboal, Cebu Thursday dawn.

Initial police investigation revealed that burglars entered the resort by detaching the jalousie blades of the comfort room.

Once inside, they proceeded to the room of the manager, Australian national Matthew Simon, forcibly opened the drawer and took the money.

The caretaker of the Blue Orchid Resort, Nido Cabag, 50, immediately reported the incident to the Moalboal Police Station.

Police Officer 3 Esteward Baying, the case investigator, said they are also looking into the possibility of an inside job.

Baying said they believed the culprits came from inside the resort based on the trail left by the burglars.

Baying said the culprit only detached four jalousie blades in the middle of the window.

“Aside sa gamay ang bangag, maglisod kay matumban man ang kato’ng jalousie sa ubos nga part,” said Baying.

Baying said the way the clasp of the jalousie blades were deformed only indicates that the culprits were from inside the room.

Adding to the confusion, Baying said the burglars did not take the gadgets inside the room.

“Kalibonan ra man unta ang luyo. Sayon ra kaayo pagdala sa mga butang kung adto gyud niagi,” said Baying.

He said they are having a hard time in their investigation because aside from the absence of a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera in the area, Simon does not want to coordinate with them.

Baying said they received reports about Simon being robbed at the previous resort he worked for. — Ma. Fatima R. Secuya/LPM (FREEMAN)
