CEBU, Philippines- An unwed mother was indicted for infanticide after she was accused of burying her child alive after giving birth in 2013 in Barangay Panadtaran, San Fernando, Cebu.

Assistant provincial prosecutor Jay Paradiang has found probable cause to hold Jackielyn “Jaque” Soroño, 29, for trial.

“…the above-named accused for the purpose of concealing her dishonor of giving birth to a child born out of wedlock, with deliberate intent to kill, did then and there willfully, unlawfully and feloniously deliver a new born baby girl and thereafter bury the body nearby the latter’s house resulting to the death by asphyxia,” the charge sheet read.

Paradiang recommended P120,000 bail for Soroño’s temporary liberty.

Police Officer 1 Mary Jane Estrera of San Fernando Police Station alleged that on July 24, 2013 at around 2:50 p.m., a concern citizen reported to the police station about a new born baby allegedly being buried near the house of the accused.

The police together with representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the municipal doctor went to the area to check the information.

The police conducted a hot pursuit operation and immediately arrested the mother.

Soroño reportedly admitted to the police that she delivered a baby girl at around 9 a.m. on July 24 and neglected the baby for several hours. At 3 p.m. she admitted burying the baby at her backyard.  (FREEMAN)
