CEBU, Philippines- The Lakas-Kampi-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-Kampi-CMD), a minority political party, will field candidates in the 2016 elections.

This was announced by party president, Leyte first district Representative Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, during his visit in Cebu City for the 15th National Convention of Lawyers.

Romualdez himself is eyeing the senatorial position being on his last term as congressman. He is the son of Benjamin Romualdez, the younger brother of former first lady Imelda Marcos.

“I’ve been encouraged by other party leaders to consider a national run, it’s very, very flattering but obviously it’s very hard. We are from region that needs a lot of help,” said Romualdez in a press conference.

The last time Region 8 had a regional representation was in the 1950s, the congressman said.

According to Romualdez, he and his cousin, Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez, have played a more visible role than usual because of super typhoon Yolanda that hit Visayas on November 8, 2013.

“Medyo napakilala na not just the mayor but myself in this process because Tacloban, which is in my district along with other municipalities, nakatutok ang attention ng media,” he said.  (FREEMAN)
