Another tobacco company salesman robbed

Ma. Fatima R. Secuya - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Two armed men on a motorcycle reportedly robbed a tobacco firm salesman yesterday afternoon in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City.

Garry Gutang, 30, a resident of Barangay Tisa, said he lost his P15,000 personal money and P20,000 cash collection to two unidentified robbers.

Senior Police Officer 4 Roldan Baller of Mabolo Police said the victim, who drove a van, arrived at F. Gochan St. to supposedly deliver tobaccos to a client when a motorcycle with two men onboard blocked his way.

The driver then pointed a gun at the victim and declared a hold up.

In fear, Gutang hastily disembarked from the van and ran away, leaving his wallet which contained P15,000 cash, ATM cards, and identification cards, and the P20,000 cash he earlier collected from customers.

The robbers took the cash and items and sped off towards the interior portion of Mabolo.

Personnel of Mabolo Police conducted a hot pursuit operation against the robbers but to no avail.

Gutang said he believes that the two robbers were the same persons who also robbed him and his fellow company workers in Barangay Apas a few weeks ago.

Similar incidents were also reported recently in other towns in Cebu, with tobacco firm employees locked in their vans after getting robbed.

Investigation is ongoing to identify and arrest the culprits. —NSA (FREEMAN)
