Rama creates new sports center body
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has issued executive order establishing the Cebu City Sports Center Management Board.
“There is finally a need to institutionalize the sports center management board with a definite intention to have center as one of the facilities of the city,” the executive order read.
Lawyer Dominic Diño, Rama’s chief of staff, said the previously issued EO in 2010, which ordered the creation of the Cebu City Sports Center Management Committee, has been revised with minor changes.
“Ang karaang EO naa’y names, unya kun naa’y names dili na mausab anytime kay mag-usab na pud ka’g issue og EO and ang duties and functions kay gi-define na pud og balik kay series of amendments na man gud,” Diño said.
Under the 2010 EO, the sports committee includes Dr. Eladio Dioko as chairman and Dr. Nestor Alonso, Dr. Rhea Mar Angtud, Recaredo Borgonia, Ricardo Ballesteros and the former vice mayor Joy Augustus Young as members.
Diño said the purpose of issuing the 2015 EO is for the mayor to add or replace anyone under the board.
Under the new executive order, the board is composed of a chairman and four members and all shall be appointed by the mayor.
The board is asked to meet at least once a month or once weekly.
Among the defined duties and responsibilities of the board are to review and recommend for approval of the mayor its annual plans and programs for the management and operation of the center; to recommend to the mayor the procurement and or installation of additional facilities and features of the sports center; to coordinate with other bodies and commissions whose thrust is the development of the youth and children in sports and wellness, among others.
Under the executive order, there shall be an established center management office which shall be under a sports center manager.
As of now, the mayor has not appointed the members of the board.
Diño said the existing members of the committee will function as one, pending the appointment of the mayor. (FREEMAN)
