Woman killed, daughter hurt as motorcycle collides with truck
CEBU, Philippines – A woman died while her eight-year-old daughter was injured after the motorcycle she was driving collided with a truck along Barangay Lanas, Naga City yesterday.
Evangeline Taboada, 39, of Dumlog, Toledo City was pronounced dead on arrival at the Minglanilla District Hospital while her daughter April Jane Taboada is being treated at South General Hospital.
Evangeline was on her way to meet her husband in Naga City proper when the accident happened yesterday morning, said Police Officer 3 Kit Nuñez, desk officer of Naga City Police Station.
“Ang bana diri ‘to niingon nako nga ‘magsugat to sa akoa sir.’ Naa ra sa Naga mag-abot,” Nuñez said.
Evangeline was driving a motorcycle with her daughter on her back when it collided head on with a truck, which was heading towards Toledo City.
Truck driver John Mark Alcanzado, 24, stopped the vehicle to check the victims and asked for help from residents nearby.
He surrendered to the police who responded to the area.
Nuñez said that based on the investigation, Evangeline was driving the motorcycle fast. She reportedly overtook two vehicles and went to the opposite lane, colliding with the truck.
Criminal charges are being prepared against Alcazando should the victim’s husband decides to file a case against him, said the police. — (FREEMAN)
