Tabogon brgy captain arrested

CEBU, Philippines - The Barangay Captain of Poblacion, Tabogon was arrested by the police on Wednesday after a warrant of arrest was issued against him for allegedly assaulting the former Tabogon Police Station chief in 2013.

Barangay Captain Trinidad Manloloyo IV, 38, was arrested as soon as the warrant of arrest was issued by 5th Municipal Circuit Trial Court in Borbon Judge Hernani Espina.

Police Officer 3 Ronnie Alivio, desk officer of Tabogon Police Station, said that when the warrant was served against the barangay captain, he showed no resistance. 

Alivio said that the arrest of the barangay captain stemmed from the case filed by former Tabogon Police Station chief Senior Inspector Welther Grapa against him.

Manloloyo, who was a councilman in 2013, allegedly assaulted Grapa and other police officers inside the police station.

Grapa said in an interview that Manloloyo challenged police officers to a fistfight.

“Daghan nana siya’ng gipanghagit og sukmagay nga polis diha (Tabogon), salig siguro siya nga daku sila nga pamilya,” Grapa said.

“Walay respeto g’yud, naa pa’y usa ka polis sa Tabogon sir nga hapit na siya gitigbas agi sa kalagot,” Grapa added.

Grapa said he didn’t think an arrest warrant would be issued anymore since the complaint was filed a long time ago. But pleased with the outcome, Grapa said he will pursue the case to serve a lesson for the barangay captain.

“Iya pa ko giingnan sauna nga bantay lang daw ko. Bisan asa mi mag-abot ug unsa pa’y mahitabo ipadayon naku na nga kaso aron di na na magsalig,” Grapa added.

Grapa said that after the commotion inside the police station, Manloloyo filed an administrative case against him at the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) but was dismissed.

The court recommended P12,000 bail for the barangay captain’s liberty but because he failed to post bail on the day of his arrest he was detained at the Tabogon Police Station.   (FREEMAN)
