CEBU, Philippines - A man died while his companion was injured when their motorcycle figured in a head-on collision with a cargo truck in Barangay Luyang, Carmen Friday evening.

Arnel Boganotan, 37, of Barangay Tangke, Talisay City, suffered from serious injuries on his body that resulted to his death while his backrider, Rene Pepito, is getting further treatment at a Cebu City hospital.

Boganotan was driving a motorcycle (SU-2089) northbound when he allegedly overtook another motorcycle and accidentally rammed into a cargo truck, which was traveling at the opposite lane.

Police Officer 1 Cristito Aresco of Carmen Police Station said Boganotan was having a race with his friend who was driving the motorcycle that was ahead of him.

Truck driver Joel Amatong, 29, of Barangay Talo-ot, Argao, voluntarily surrendered to the authorities and is now detained at Carmen Police Station.

Both vehicles involved in the incident are temporarily impounded for proper disposition.  (FREEMAN)
