PopCom to award LGUs, local execs
CEBU, Philippines - The Population Commission will be awarding exemplary local government units, local chief executives and institutions that have contributed in the field of population and development.
Dubbed as the 2014 Rafael M. Salas Population and Development Award, which was designed to perpetuate the legacy of Salas, the recognition also aims to heighten support and participation among government, non-government officials, individuals, or institutions in the implementation of the population management program.
The award will be launched today in celebration of PopCom's 45th year anniversary.
PopCom, as the leading strategic partner, policy and program advocates for the Philippine Population Management Program, established the RMSPDA in 1989.
In a statement, PopCom said that for this year, the award will be conferred on a local government unit (city and municipality) that has been involved in the field of population and development.
The award aims to showcase outstanding population and development (POPDEV) oriented cities and municipalities; recognize excellence and innovation in POPDEV programs of cities municipalities; and encourage cities and municipalities to heighten implementation of POPDEV responsive programs.
The awards criteria include health governance and health financing; access to programs, services and facilities; and performance monitoring. —(FREEMAN)
