LTO confirms operation of colorum cabs at SRP
CEBU, Philippines- The Land Transportation Office-7 yesterday confirmed the existence of colorum multicabs operating at the South Road Properties.
LTO-7 director Arnel Tancinco said multicab drivers collect P10 to transport passengers from the Malacañang sa Sugbo to Talisay City.
Tancinco said they have impounded a multicab (JFJ 720) because of the illegal operation.
Under Joint Administrative Order 2014-01, operation of colorum vehicles carries a penalty of P50,000, aside from impounding of the subject vehicle.
Because of this confirmation, LTO-7 personnel are expected to conduct comprehensive operation starting today to arrest those who are operating illegally.
“I have already issued a memorandum today. So by tomorow, magsugod na ang atong comprehensive operation aron madakpan ang uban pa nga nag-operate sa SRP,” Tancinco said.
Last week, three multicab drivers were apprehended by the Cebu City Traffic Operations Management after they were caught “illegally” plying along the SRP route.
CITOM operations chief Jonathan Tumulak was hoping that LTO will act on the report considering that they cannot issue any citation tickets.
“Ang nakapait ani is we cannot issue citation sa ilang pagka-colorum kay wala na na-cover sa atong city ordinance maong maayo unta og aksiyonan ni sa Land Transportation Office ug sa Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board,” Tumulak said in an earlier interview.
The colorum vehicles reportedly collect P10 fare from the Senior Citizen’s Park to Kasadya sa SRP or to Talisay City, said Tumulak.
Cebu City Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella also confirmed the illegal operations last week.
“We received reports that there is proliferation of multicabs that are transporting passengers and accepting fares on the route of SRP,” Labella said.
Labella, who chairs the PCAC, said the operation of these colorum vehicles should be stopped for lack of franchise and insurances. (FREEMAN)
