Road mishap kills 1 in Danao

CEBU, Philippines- A 34-year-old man died after he was hit by a Mazda pickup Saturday midnight in Barangay Maslog, Danao City.

Many Mayol, resident of the said barangay, was crossing the highway at Sitio Taboc when he was hit by the pickup driven by Carlos Estrera, 31, of Marangog, Bogo City.

Police Officer 1 Joseph Alledon, traffic investigator, said that the victim had just come from a party in Maslog proper where juniors and seniors prom was held. He crossed to a nearby store to buy a pack of cigarette when the incident happened. Estrera said he did not see the victim crossing because of the lights coming from a multicab in the opposite direction. Estrera surrendered to the police and offered financial assistance to the family of the victim.

Alledon said the family is not interested in pressing charges against Estrera provided that the latter would pay for the needed expenses.  (FREEMAN)
