Hospital has another waste-related case
CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Environmental Sanitation Enforcement Team (CESET) has disclosed that the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) has a pending case for failure to segregate solid wastes last year.
The case is on top of the second citation ticket issued to the hospital this year also for not segregating its wastes.
CESET head Grace Luardo said that her office has filed a case against VSMMC on September 2014.
“Nag-file ta last year og kaso nila kay wala tagae og pansin ang atong first citation ticket nga gi-issue nila. Karon, pending pa ang kaso and gahuwat pa ta sa subpoena sa korte,” she said, adding, that the failure to settle the violation has led to the filing of case.
Luardo said the citation ticket should not be taken lately because her office files cases against a person or establishments that fail to settle the citation ticket seven days after it is issued. Last week, the hospital paid P2,000, including for its second violation.
To prevent committing more violation, VSMMC asked CESET to deputize its supervisors. Luardo said that the seminar or training will help the hospital to better manage its waste disposal and that the deputize personnel can issue citation tickets to erring personnel of VSMMC.
“Ang problema man gud kuno nila nga ang mga tao nila gahi daw kaayo’g mga ulo, dili mopatuo nila. Pinaagi ana, usa na nga madisiplina ang mga tao,” she said.
Luardo said that she will conduct the seminar and training to seven supervisors of VSMMC.
“Kun ma-deputize na maka issue og citation tickets unya ang process ana is kon maka-issue man gani sila og citation ticket, paadtoon sa CESET office kay kami na ang makig-estorya sa ilang naisyuhan,” she said.
She said the city government will not be spending for the honorarium of the deputized personnel.
“Ang kaning mo-undergo sa training mahimo na silang deputized personnel sa CESET and sila ning mga supervisors sa different sections sa hospital kay sila ang modala sa ilang mga tao and at the same time, sila ang naay look out sa mga tao,” she said.
The deputized personnel can issue citation tickets to anyone along the city streets if they find someone violating the city ordinance, Luardo said.
“Like sa Cebu City Medical Center, naa pud ta’y gi-deputize diha naa sa janitorial services para mobantay sa mga violators,” she said. —JMO (FREEMAN)
