Police to tighten security for V-Day
CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Police Office will be tightening security in some areas starting today in preparation for the Valentine’s Day celebration this Saturday.
Chief Inspector Enrique Belciña of the CCPO Police Community Relations said that the 11 station commanders were directed to deploy police personnel in their respective areas in the city where lovers are expected to flock on February 14.
He said police visibility will be increased in areas known for dating. He cited restaurants like in Salinas Drive and parks such as Plaza Independencia, Fuente Osmeña, and South Road Properties, among others.
Belciña further noted that they expect the influx of couples in dating areas, most especially at night, saying policemen will be deployed in those areas starting this evening until Saturday.
Belciña reminded the public to remain vigilant and refrain from wearing and bringing valuables such as jewelries and huge amounts of cash in crowded places as lawless elements would usually take advantage of the occasion.
He said suspicious-looking individuals or criminal activities should be reported to nearby police authorities.
Belciña also advised couples not to display too much affection in public, saying those who display indecent acts in public places may face charges for alarm and scandal.
Meanwhile, the CCPO personnel held a Pre-Valentine’s Day Special at the CCPO parade ground this morning to honor the importance of the women in the organization.
CCPO officer-in-charge Senior Superintendent Conrad Capa gave flowers and cupcakes to policewomen and female non-uniformed personnel of the city police.
Further, the Provincial Board has requested the Department of Trade and Industry to monitor prices of products like flowers and chocolates which are in demand during Valentine’s Day.
The PB said this would ensure that there will be no jacking up of prices during the occasion.
The body stated in a resolution, sponsored by Board member Arleigh Sitoy, that the huge number of shoppers flocking to malls and other establishments during Valentine’s Day is “sometimes being taken advantage of by some businessmen who tend to drastically overprice their items to maximize their profit at the disadvantage of the public.”
“This august body finds it necessary to request the Department of Trade and Industry to monitor prices of goods usually purchased during the Valentine’s Day to prevent overpricing and to ensure an orderly celebration (of Valentine’s Day),” part of the resolution read.
The local government units in the province are also urged to help the DTI. (FREEMAN)
