‘Fake’ pump boat engines seized

Mylen P. Manto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Over 100 alleged fake pump boat engines were seized yesterday by operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation from a store in Mandaue City.

Joint operatives of the NBI-7 and the National Capital Region raided Weld Industrial Sales in Barangay Cabancalan based on a search warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 46 in Manila.

Judge Rai Nelda Montesa issued the search warrant for violation of the Intellectual Property Law because of the complaint filed by Solanda Enterprises.

The complainant alleged that Weld Industrial Sales owned by Joy Magaluyos and Ann Jamaica Chueya is selling fake Robin pump boat engine.

A brother of one of the owners who refused to be named told reporters that they did not know the pump boat engines they were selling are fake.

He claimed the product was bought from their supplier whom he identified as a certain Mr. Wong.

“We are also victim,” he said, adding that Weld Industrial Sales is a retailing company and has been in operation for three years already. It allegedly started selling pump boat engines last year.

The store owners will be charged with violation of the Republic Act 8293, otherwise known as the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.   (FREEMAN)
