Man surrenders after shooting uncle
CEBU, Philippines - A 22-year-old man surrendered to the police after he reportedly killed his uncle in their residence in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City past 6 pm Monday.
Juniel Joe Caballes surrendered at the Guadalupe Police Station after reportedly shooting his 61-year-old uncle.
Caballes’ uncle, Anacleto Decena, was killed after he sustained two gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen.
Guadalupe police responded to the crime scene after they received reports of the shooting incident past 6 p.m.
Desk officer PO3 Ronie Nudalo said Decena and Caballes are neighbors in Sitio Kabulakan, Banawa.
Nudalo said Decena was reportedly trying to produce fire using rubber which made the suspect anxious as the smoke’s smell reached his house. Caballes reportedly did not want the smoke to be inhaled by his children.
Nudalo said this resulted to a heated argument which prompted Caballes to grab his .45 caliber pistol and shot the victim.
Decena was rushed to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
Caballes initially fled after the shooting but decided to voluntarily surrender to the police.
Nudalo said the suspect went to the police station with PO1 Emmanuel Zafra.
Caballes is presently detained at Guadalupe Police Station. (FREEMAN)
