Men arrested for “assaulting” police

CEBU, Philippines - Three men were arrested in two separate incidents for allegedly assaulting police officers on Sunday.

In Barangay Pitogo, Consolacion, two drunk men were arrested after they allegedly mocked and punched policemen who were patrolling around Sunday morning.

Initial investigation revealed that Cyril Agan, 30, and Dickson Pastor, 24, were having a drinking session outside a restobar prior to the incident.

Police Officer 1 Socartes Borinaga of Consolacion Police Station said that while they were roving onboard their patrol car, the two men suddenly approached them and told them “kamong mga polis sa Consolacion, wala mo’y mga buot, wala mo’y mga ayo, wala mo’y nabuhat.”

PO1 Borinaga together with PO1 Jean Punay disembarked from the patrol car and asked the suspects to calm down but they tried to throw a punch at them instead.

“Nag-inom man to silang duha. Dayon nikalit lang sila’g duol sa among patrol car unya naninghag. Paggawas namo, amo silang giingnan nga mukalma lang pero nikalit lang sila og sukmag, maayo gani wala mi naigo,” Borinaga said.

Borinaga and Punay decided to arrest the two men but Pastor tried to resist, prompting the two other police officers inside the patrol car to respond and help them.

Borinaga added that as part of their standard operating procedure, they conducted a body search against Agan and Pastor and recovered from them two small packs of suspected shabu inside their pockets.

Agan and Pastor are currently detained at the Consolacion detention cell awaiting the filing of appropriate charges.

Meanwhile, a man was arrested after he tried to grab the service firearm of a policeman in Barangay South Poblacion, Naga City Sunday evening.

Arnulfo Lariosa, 42, resident of Hambunga Island, Inabanga, Bohol, was arrested after he nearly hit Police Officer 1 Bobby Basabe in the leg when they were fighting for the possession of the firearm.

Initial investigation revealed that the police received information about Lariosa, who was believed to have a firearm.

Elements of the Naga City Police Station immediately responded to the alarm and confronted the Lariosa.

However, Lariosa refused to speak with the police and suddenly tried to grab the firearm of Basabe.

“Pag-introduce namo nga pulis mi, niduol mi niya pero without any reason nisuway siya og ilog sa akong armas,” Basabe said.

Basabe added that he and Lariosa were fighting over the possession of the firearm and he was almost hit after the suspect fired the gun.

Basabe then was able to retrieve his firearm while the other responding officers arrested Lariosa.

The police said Lariosa reportedly got scared, which prompted him to get Basabe’s firearm.

They were able to recover from Lariosa’s possession a .38 caliber revolver with live ammunition.

Lariosa is currently detained at the Naga City police detention cell. He will be facing charges for direct assault and violation of RA 10591. (FREEMAN)
