CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City government will give cash rewards to all its employees who worked to help ensure the success of the Sinulog Grand Parade last Sunday.

Mayor Michael Rama made the announcement yesterday afternoon during the awarding of grand parade winners at the Cebu City Sports Center.

He directed City Administrator Lucelle Mercado to list the employees who may receive the reward.

Last year, the city government gave out P2.9 million to at least 1,495 employees, each one receiving P2,000. Mercado said it is most likely that the same amount will be given this year.

“They really worked very hard and dapat lang pod nga atong i-recognize atong mga empleyado nga matinud-anon nga ni-trabaho. Ilista gyod nato katong tinud-anay lang gyod nga nagtrabaho,” she said.

Among those that will receive the reward are personnel of the Cebu City Traffic Operations Management; Cebu City Environmental Sanitation Enforcement Team; Barangay Environmental Office; Prevention Restoration Order Beautification and Enhancement, Department of Public Services; and Department of Engineering and Public Works.

Mercado said she will process the incentives this week so that the City Council can approve the same as soon as possible.

Awards

Also yesterday, Cebu City recognized six personalities who have contributed to the success of the Sinulog since in 1980.

A posthumous award was given to former Cebu City vice mayor Renato Osmeña for having been president of the Sinulog Board of Trustees from 1984-2014. The city government has recognized Osmeña’s “dynamics and exemplary leadership in institutionalizing the Sinulog.”

Osmeña, as overall chairman, was given full authority in managing the Sinulog Grand Parade. Even after his retirement from politics, he continued to serve as member of the Board of Directors of the Sinulog Foundation, Inc.  He died on May 29 last year.

Renato was one of the children of Edilberto Osmeña, son of former President Don Sergio Osmeña Sr.

He was first elected councilor of Cebu City before becoming vice mayor from 1998 to 2004. He also used to head the Police Coordinating and Advisory Council.
