P37T cash taken in separate thefts
CEBU, Philippines - Over P37,000 worth of cash and other valuables were taken in pick-pocketing and theft incidents inside a jeepney and a fastfood chain in Cebu City on Sunday and yesterday.
About P34,000 cash was taken from Juna Pepito, 39, resident of 0294 Gorordo Avenue, Cebu City yesterday morning.
The suspect, Joel Celesti, was identified by the victim through the rouge gallery provided by the police.
Senior Police Officer 4 Ernesto Panaligan, desk officer at Cebu City Theft and Robbery Section, said both the victim and the suspect were riding a jeepney with route number 04C bound for Barangay Lahug, Cebu City.
The victim was bringing along a sling bag with her where she placed her wallet containing P34,000 cash and other identification cards.
The suspect silently took the victim’s wallet and fled, according to police accounts.
Meanwhile, a retired teacher lost her bag in a “salisi” theft incident inside a fastfood chain in Cebu City on Sunday.
The victim was identified as Patrocinia Caballero, 65, and a resident of Englis V. Rama Avenue, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.
Caballero told The FREEMAN she sat on a stool chair inside the fastfood chain and placed her bag on the other stool to her right.
She said a lady then approached her and asked if she could share with their table.
Moments later, Caballero looked for her bag to check her phone and realized that it was already missing.
About P3,000 cash, seven US dollars, different ID cards and a black Nokia cellular phone were taken from the victim.
The victim will ask the fastfood’s management for the CCTV record of the incident, as advised by the Theft and Robbery Section, in order to identify the suspects. (FREEMAN)
