Massive operation underway

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Traffic Operations Management will start a massive operation this month against erring drivers in preparation for the Sinulog.

CITOM operations chief Jonathan Tumulak said there are about 500 erring drivers that were issued with bench warrant as of November last year.

“Naa tay massive operation against erring drivers karong buwan kay nakita nato naka-cause og traffic ang mga violators labi nga duna tay dagko nga kalihokan sama sa Sinulog so ato gyod hugtan og maayo og implement sa traffic rules,” he said.

Tumulak said that at least half of the pending warrants are yet to be served.

 “Among paningkamotan nga ma-serve nato ang remaining bench warrants before sa Sinulog para hapsay na atong kadalanan, walay mga badlongon nga mga drivers,” he said.

He said that CITOM was not able to serve the remaining bench warrants last year because they have been busy concentrating on the traffic management.

“Daghan pod ta nga road experiments nga gihimo para ma-solve ang congestion sa traffic sa syudad maong wala gyod nato ma-focus ang sa bench warrants,” he said.

Tumulak said that traffic congestion will be minimized if all drivers will follow traffic rules and regulations. CITOM has intensified its campaign against erring drivers of public and private vehicles in the city.

Tumulak said that these erring drivers have failed to settle their obligations after CITOM enforcers issued citations tickets to them.

Bench warrants were issued for violating the Cebu City Ordinance 801 or the Traffic Code of Cebu City.

“Awhag lang nato nila nga aron malikayan nga ma-issue-han sila og bench warrant, dapat i-settle nila ilang obligations sa opisina,” Tumulak said.

Meanwhile, Tumulak said that all Cebu City hall employees and officials will be trained on traffic rules.

“Naa tay seminar sa mga drivers sa city hall aron mamahimong maayong i-hemplo sa uban. We admit nga duna gyod mga traffic violators sa city hall,” he said, adding that he will be submitting the names of the erring drivers to Human Resource and Development Office chief Dominic Diño.

Tumulak said that CITOM aims to lessen the number erring drivers this year.

“Mas maayong mogamay atong madakpan kay ni-follow na ang tanan sa rules, maong mo-disiplina gyod ta karon aron makahibaw sila nga serious ang CITOM sa pagpanakop sa mga badlongon,” he said.  (FREEMAN)
