Sea vessels more than 1T ton allowed to sail

CEBU, Philippines -  Sea travel ban for Cebu vessels bound for Visayas areas was lifted for vessels weighing more than 1,000 tons yesterday morning after several of these types of vessels opted not to travel due to unfavorable sea condition the other day.

Commodore William Melad, district commander of the Philippine Coast Guard-Central Visayas, said that small vessels, however, opted to cancel their trips.

Alfredo Quiblat, officer-in-charge of PAGASA-Cebu, said that they still issued a gale warning that will serve as an advisory for small sea crafts not to travel at this time due to the huge waves.

“Delikado pa gyud siya sa mga gagmay nga mga bangka but okay na mo-travel kadtong mga barko weighing more than 1,000 gross tons,” Quiblat said.

Melad said that as of yesteray, some passengers of motor banca plying the Sibulan-Liloan route have voluntarily suspended their trips.

Melad said these include MB Jeffrey 1, MB Jeffrey 2, MB Jethel 1, MB Jethel 2, MB Marylou and MB San Antonio.

Based on PAGASA’s extended weather forecast, Metro Cebu will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy today with rainshowers and/or thunderstorms.
