Carpenter zapped to death in Tuburan town

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A carpenter was electrocuted Saturday morning while fixing a roof in Tuburan town.

Mario Dilao, 46, of Barangay Caridad in the said town, was found dead by his partner, Josue Gabuya, with burns in his feet. Dilao and Gabuya were hired to fix the roof of a house in Barangay 2.

Dilao was allegedly left by his partner to buy something from a nearby store. When Gabuya returned he found his partner already on the ground, apparently fell from the roof.

Initial investigation shows that the victim may have been electrocuted from the service wire of Cebu Electric Cooperative II.

“Nagtaod ni siya’g sin, ‘nya mora’g nabiyaan siya wa na bantayi, mora’g naay wire nga pinanitan na nasabod sa sin. Natagak siya sa silong, sa ubos na nakit-an, naay napanit sa iyang tiil, morag maoy napaso,” said PO1 Mat Moroco, desk officer of Tuburan Police Station.

Moroco said they are conducting further investigation to determine the possible liability of CEBECO II.

Meanwhile, a 50-year-old woman suffered first degree burns caused by high voltage electricity. Aida Marcellones, of Barangay Abucayan, Balamban, was trying to unplug her television set at 3 p.m. Saturday after her outdoor antenna fell onto the primary line of CEBECO III.

The strong electric current has thrown Marcellones on the floor causing head injury and first degree burns in her right upper lip. She was brought to Cebu Provincial Hospital in Balamban but was later transferred to a hospital in Cebu City. (FREEMAN)
