CEBU, Philippines - High profile personalities in government, both local and national, are expected to attend the wedding of Cebu Sixth District Rep. Luis Gabriel Quisumbing in March next year.

Yesterday, Quisumbing, 35, announced he will be tying the knot with his high school sweetheart on March 7, 2015 at the National Shrine of St. Joseph in Mandaue City.

“I was 14 (years old) at that time and she was my first crush,” Quisumbing shared with reporters during a gathering Sunday.

He said President Benigno Aquino III is expected to attend the wedding, albeit he has declined to be among the principal sponsors.

“We asked the President, pero it’s his policy nga dili siya mu-sponsor sa kasal kay ulitawo pa man gud,” Quisumbing said.

In the sponsors’ list are, among others, Mandaue Mayor Jonas Cortes, Consolacion Mayor Teresita Alegado, Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy, Senate President Franklin Drilon, Budget Secretary  Florencio Abad, Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, Senator Grace Poe, and Secretary Rene Almendras.

Quisumbing’s fiancé, Maricar Hofileña, 35, hails from Silay City in Negros Occidental but is based in Manila. She is a close relative of the wife of Vice Mayor Red Durano of Danao City .

Quisumbing shared that he and Maricar never saw each other for 20 years after he left for the United States to pursue his studies. They met again on March 7 this year after his cousin who incidentally is Maricar’s best friend, brought Maricar to the wake of his late grandmother in Manila .

This is reportedly the reason why they picked the date for their wedding.  (FREEMAN)
