3 dead, 5 injured in road mishaps
CEBU, Philippines - Three people died while five were injured in three separate vehicular accidents in the province over the weekend.
Nelson Perales, 33, died on the spot after his motorcycle collided with another motorcycle driven by Felipe More, 32, in Barangay Tubigagmanok, Asturias on Saturday. More and two of his passengers were injured.
Police Officer 2 Excel Aguanta, of Asturias Police Station, said More and his passengers came from Barangay Looc Norte and were heading to Barangay Sta. Lucia to attend a fiesta when they collided with Perales, who was trying to overtake a tricycle from the opposite direction.
Perales was brought to Balamban District Hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival. More was detained at the Asturias Police Station while awaiting charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and physical injuries.
Another motorcycle collision happened in Barangay Pondol, Balamban past 11 p.m. Saturday killing Jason Adolfo.
Adolfo, of Barangay Baliwagan, was pronounced dead on arrival at Cebu Provincial Hospital in Balamban. Adolfo collided with another motorcycle whose driver is yet to be identified.
The passengers of the other motorcycle which collided with that of Adolfo’s claimed that the driver escaped after the incident. The passengers who were also injured are Dennis Cabelara, 24, of Barangay Buanoy; Erwin Alisoso, 24, of Barangay Abucayan; and Nelson Cervantes, of Barangay Baliwagan.
Meanwhile, a widow died in Barangay Malingin Daanbantayan after she was hit by a vehicle driven by Efren Chin while crossing the highway past 2 p.m. last Friday. Lydia Coyoca was rushed to Daanbantayan District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Chin reportedly lost control of his vehicle after hitting Coyoca and also hit a passenger vehicle driven by Crispin Aton, 70, of Barangay Bateria, Daanbantayan.
Chin surrendered to the police station where he is now detained while awaiting charges. (FREEMAN)
