Grace Melanie L. Lacamiento - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - Around P125,000 worth of properties went up in smoke during two separate fire incidents in Cebu City and Bantayan Island.

Two residential houses owned by Pia Bontuyan and her aunt, Esterlina Bontuyan, were razed after a fire hit Tres Borces, Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City at 3:22 a.m. yesterday.

SFO3 Danilo Relatado, fire investigator, said they received the fire alarm at 3:22 a.m. The fire was declared under control five minutes later.

Relatado said it was not difficult for firefighters to put out the fire since the area was just located along the road. He said the fire started at the ceiling of Pia's house. It was believed to have been caused by electrical misuse.

While the victims were not able to save any of their belongings, no one was injured or died during the fire.

Relatado estimated the damage at P50,000.

Meanwhile, the houses of Fedila Rivera and her brother-in-law, Cristobal Giducos Jr., were partially damaged in a fire in Barangay Suba, Bantayan, Cebu Sunday evening.

Two motorcycles that were parked for safety because of typhoon Ruby were also destroyed by the fire.

Upon receiving the fire alarm, elements of Bantayan Police Station and Bantayan Central Fire Station responded to put out the fire.

Based on the investigation conducted by SFO3 Jose Maniban Jr. the fire started at the bedroom of Rivera.

Maniban estimated the damage at P75,000. No casualty was reported during the incident. —  (FREEMAN)
