CEBU, Philippines - A 28-year-old man was found buried dead near the river where he was extracting sand and gravel in Barangay Tamiao, Compostela, Cebu on Sunday.

Jerson Yatan, 28 and a resident of the area was announced dead on arrival at Danao City Provincial Hospital.

Senior Police Officer 1 Larry Fernandez, desk officer at Compostela Police Station, said the victim left his house at 6:30 in the morning to extract sand and gravel in the nearby river.

However, the victim was not able to go home at 7 in the evening causing his relatives to worry.

Felix Lihas, Jerson’s half brother, went to the area where they extract sand and gravel to check if Jerson was there.

Upon reaching the area, Felix noticed that the land from a portion of the river bank has fallen and saw Jerson’s shirt and slipper around.

Felix immediately asked help from their neighbors and relatives and went back to the place together with Barangay Councilor Jerwin Ygoc.

Believing that Jerson might have been buried, they helped dig and extract the fallen soil and found Jerson lifeless beneath the rubble. (FREEMAN)
