Security set for Tiamzons’ arraignment

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Police Regional Office-7 has laid down the security measures for the arraignment of arrested top leaders of the Communist Party of the Philippines, couple Benito and Wilma Tiamzon, in Toledo City, Cebu on Monday.

PRO-7 director Prudencio Bañas said they have to make sure that the Tiamzons will be secured from rescue and assassination attempts when they arrive in Cebu.

Bañas said they did not receive any threats against the couple, but they are not letting off their guard.

“We always presume that threat exists. We’ll make sure that they are secured,” he said, further stressing that the police are on top of the situation.

Personnel from PRO-7 and the Armed Forces of the Philippines-Central Command attended the conference yesterday.

Bañas said the security preparation covers the couple’s arrival up to the court room and on the way back.

“The preparation is for the court hearing, road security, building security, lahat-lahat na,” he said.

The PRO-7 director added that they will not raise the alert level in Central Visayas but will establish extra security in areas where the Tiamzon couple will be brought.

Benito and Wilma, the reported chairman and secretary general, respectively, of the Communist Party of the Philippines, were arrested by PNP and AFP personnel in Aloguinsan, Cebu last March.  (FREEMAN)
