For re-autopsy NBI-7 to exhume body of cop who “killed” self
CEBU, Philippines - The National Bureau of Investigation-7 is set to exhume the body of Police Officer 1 Heide Garcia, who allegedly committed suicide, following the request of the family for a re-autopsy.
NBI-7 assistant director, lawyer Dominador Cimafranca, said Garcia’s family requested their office to conduct another autopsy on her body amid suspicions surrounding her death.
The re-autopsy aims to determine the trajectory of the bullet that caused Garcia’s death.
The policewoman was earlier laid to rest in her native town in Talibon, Bohol.
Earlier investigation showed that Garcia committed suicide using the service firearm of her friend, PO1 Cyrelle Marie Bayate.
Garcia’s family refused to believe this theory and instead seeks the help of the NBI to determine other angles surrounding the policewoman’s death.
The NBI-7 is hoping that the police who handled Garcia’s case have preserved the clothes worn by the two policewomen during the incident as well as other pieces of evidence which may yield more clues as to what really happened last November 7.
The NBI-7 is also looking into the possibility of conducting another re-enactment inside Bayate’s room where Garcia allegedly shot and killed herself. — (FREEMAN)
