Man arrested with almost P240T worth of illegal drugs

CEBU, Philippines - A 25-year-old man, who is reportedly a le-vel-two drug pusher, was arrested after the police seized P239,000 worth of illegal drugs in a buy-bust operation at Sitio Mahayahay, Barangay Calamba, Cebu City yesterday morning.

Members of the City Intelligence Branch arrested Abram Villanueva right after he allegedly sold two packs of shabu to a police-poseur buyer for P500.

A total of 450 small sachets and one medium-pack of suspected shabu were recovered from Villanueva. The police also confiscated P7,300 cash believed to be proceeds from the illegal trade. 

Inspector Gomersendo Mandaue, CIB deputy chief, said that they have placed the subject of the buy-bust under surveillance almost a week after receiving information about his illegal activities.

He said that Villanueva can dispose of 200 grams of illegal drugs every week.

He added that they also found out Villanueva also served as a supplier to small-time drug pushers as he repacks medium-sized sachets of suspected shabu to smaller packs. One small pack of shabu was sold for P250.

Police investigation showed that Villanueva gets his supply outside Cebu City and distributes them to his customers within Region 7.

Mandaue further cited that the suspect was just released from Bagong Buhay Rehabilitation Center almost a month ago and went back to the illegal drug trade.

Villanueva admitted to the media that he resorted to selling illegal drugs due to poverty.

He added he was able to post bail for violating Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 but Mandaue said that this time, they will file a non-bailable case against the Villanueva for violating Section 5 and 11 of Republic Act of 9165 with the evidences confiscated from him upon the drug raid.

Meanwhile, Julius Resuento, 26, was arrested in a separate anti-illegal drug operation at Barangay Sto. Rosario, Bogo City Saturday evening.

The police recovered two small packs of suspected shabu, P200 buy-bust money and P440 cash believed to be his proceeds.

Resuento is currently detained at the Bogo City Police Station.  (FREEMAN)
