CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Council has requested the Department of Engineering and Public Works to conduct a survey on the proposed farm-to-market road project in the mountain barangays of the city.

Councilor Alvin Arcilla’s committee on urban planning and development has asked DEPW to submit its complete report with maps and technical description on the proposed project.

The farm-to-market road will designate about 12-kilometer road in barangays Agsungot, Adlaon, Pamutan, and other barangays in north and south district to stimulate more development in the city.

About P120 million was allocated by the Department of Agriculture-7 to finance the said development.

Arcilla said the project will provide more access for the farmers to bring their products to the markets.

“It will also enhance trade/commerce and other economic activity in the area,” he said.

City agriculturist Joey Baclayon earlier said that the project will be implemented next year.

Arcilla asked Barangay Taptap to furnish complete copies of the Deeds of Donation for the lots affected by the proposed farm-to-market roads in the mountain barangays.

As of press time, at least nine affected lot owners have agreed to donate their property for the proposed project.

Aside from the P120 million, the city government has proposed different road concreting projects in the mountain barangays of the city.

DEPW has also proposed P200 million for the farm-to-road market roads under the 2015 annual budget. The amount will include concreting of streets in Barangays Tabunan to Tagbao, Mangabon to Lu-saran, among others.

Baclayon said that there will be no duplication of the concreting projects since department offices have appropriated for specific barangay roads.

DA-7 has disbursed around P1 million each for the farmers associations in the south and north districts to acquire hauling trucks to transport their crops easily.  (FREEMAN)
