Rama to ask DPWH to stop 2 projects
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama wants to stop two ongoing projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Barangay Lahug and along General Maxilom Avenue.
“That should be stopped before I will make another, shall we say, declaration,” Rama said, referring to the ongoing drainage construction of DPWH-Cebu City District Engineering Office in Barangay Lahug and the road widening project by DPWH-7 along General Maxilom Avenue.
Rama said the said constructions are blocking the road.
“If you want to do something, don’t make it in the road as the place for where you create a prefabricated canal,” he said.
Rama said DPWH can rent a place where they can do the fabrication.
“You can do that somewhere, rent a place and use heavy equipment to bring it. It created obstruction in the road,” Rama elaborated.
He also expressed disappointment on how DPWH is carrying out the projects.
“I strongly present my utmost disgust on how the infrastructure by the DPWH is being done on the road,” he said.
During All Souls’ and Saints’ Days, Rama expressed his anger with DPWH and its contractor due to the unfinished concreting project along V. Rama Avenue which reportedly inconvenienced the people visiting their deceased loved ones in Calamba Cemetery.
“Everyone has complied except DPWH and the contractor. They lack in sensitivity because looking back, we had our agreement that if we will be going towards the celebration, that they should stop and not create any element of worries in terms of security and public safety and traffic,” Rama said.
Rama added that he has requested DPWH and its contractor earlier to postpone the completion of the project during the holidays.
He said yesterday that he will be sending a letter to the DPWH through the City Legal Office on the matter. — Mechelle P. Florita/ATO (FREEMAN)
