NBI agents arrest cop for estafa
CEBU, Philippines - PO3 Joseph Villaester was arrested inside the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-7 headquarters where he is assigned. Villaester was immediately turned over to RTC Branch 19 Judge Wilfredo Navarro who ordered for his arrest.
Villaester, however, was immediately released after posting P40,000 bail.
His arrest stemmed from a complaint filed by another policeman, SPO2 Arnold Bocayog, in 2013.
Bocayog said that sometime in September 2013, the accused applied for a loan from him because he allegedly needed to invest in a money-lending business.
Bocayog said Villaester applied for P300,000 loan but was only granted P100,000. The accused promised to pay P18,000 monthly interest. However, Villaester failed to fulfill his promise and instead went on absent without official leave.
Bocayog said his lawyer sent a demand letter to Villaester but the latter failed to pay his loan.— Mylen P. Manto/FPL
