CEBU, Philippines - A 32-year-old man is facing criminal complaints before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor's Office for allegedly robbing and trying to kill his own relative.

Police Senior Inspector Joseph Berondo, acting police chief of Dalaguete town, filed the complaint for robbery with frustrated homicide against Geronimo Rubin Entice, a resident of Barangay Babayongan, Dalaguete.

The victim, Maria Tangpos, claimed that on September 21, 2014 at around 4 p.m. she went to the said barangay together with her two nephews to collect her share of the income of their agricultural land.

"After collecting shares from our tenants in Sitio Tapon, we proceeded to other tenants in the area. While we were walking, a man suddenly appeared covering his face with white cloth and was holding an unknown caliber of firearm and pointed at me," Tangpos said, adding the man demanded to hand over to him the money she collected.

Tangpos said that despite giving the P7,000 money to the suspect, she was shot from behind hitting her thigh. Her nephews allegedly pleaded to the robber, whom she later found out to be Entice, to stop shooting.

"Later I realized that the suspect was one of my relatives, through the tattoo on his right arm bearing a cross sign," she said.

Tangpos said that her two nephews were able to recognize the suspect. The suspect voluntarily surrendered to Barangay Babayongan councilman Francisco Barquilla. — (FREEMAN)
