Brgy execs to get city aid Monday

CEBU, Philippines - Barangay officials in Cebu City will be receiving their quarterly honorarium in a distribution ceremony scheduled for Monday where the city expects to release a total of P6 million.

City Treasurer Diwa Cuevas said barangay captains, councilmen, secretaries and treasurers from the city’s 80 barangay will receive their allowances for the third quarter at the Cebu City’s Social Hall.

Village chiefs will receive P15,000 each while 560 barangay councilmen will get P9,000 each. For their share, barangay secretaries and treasurers will receive P6,000 each.

The figures represent three months worth of their allowances. The city government gives P5,000 monthly allowance to each barangay captain, P3,000 to each councilman, and P2,000 to each barangay secretary and treasurer.

Cuevas, however, said a 10-percent withholding tax will be deducted from the allowances of the barangay officials.

Meanwhile, the city government will be releasing the fourth tranche of cash assistance to some 60,000 senior citizens.

Cuevas said the city has allotted P113 million for the senior citizens’ cash assistance distribution today which will be done in the respective barangays.

She said each senior citizens will each receive P2,000 in cash assistance today.

The first tranche was already given to them last February, second last May and the third was last August.

“Ang city government nakahatag na og a total of P7,000 each sa senior citizens, including sa atong ihatag ugma (October 24),” Cuevas said.

Cuevas urged the senior citizens to get their assistance as early as possible because those who fail to take their part after November 7 will no longer be allowed to get the aid.

The city government vowed to give P6,000 in non-cash assistance and P6,000 cash assistance to the senior citizens residing in the city.

But with today’s distribution, the cash assistance to seniors would have already reached P7,000.

As to whether the non-cash assistance to senior citizens will still push through, Mayor Michael Rama said he is still waiting for the report of City Administrator Lucelle Mercado, former councilor Joey Daluz III and the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs on their position.
