Woman “hacks” mother-in-law

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A 65-year-old woman was allegedly hacked by her daughter-in-law Sunday evening in Barangay San Jose, Borbon town.

Rufina Pilit, of Sitio Kamagayan, Barangay San Jose, was killed after sustaining severe injuries to her head after being hacked allegedly by Gloria Pilit, 45, while on the cornfield.

Senior Police Officer 3 Rowen Baticuang, in an interview with The FREEMAN, said that the victim came from the market “tabo” and was looking for her husband.

Since she could not find her husband, she went to the house of her daughter-in-law past 7 p.m., said Baticuang.

But before she went home, the victim and her daughter-in-law allegedly had an argument. Rufina and Gloria reportedly had a previous grudge against each other, the investigator said.

The victim allegedly went home after the argument but Gloria allegedly followed her to the cornfield and hacked her using a sickle past 7 p.m.

“Ang biktima gikan sa tabo, nangita sa iyang bana niadto sa panimalay sa iyang umagad. Daan na silang naay grudges, nilakaw ang biktima, pag-ari na sa kamaisan, gisundan sa suspek, gihapak ang ulo og sanggot,” Baticuang said.

Baticuang said that a witness, who is a neighbor of the Gloria, told him of what happened.

After the incident, Gloria tried to escape but the witness reported the incident to San Jose Barangay Captain Alvin Maglasang, who immediately alerted the barangay tanods and the police.

Gloria was arrested past 11 p.m. as the barangay tanods recovered the sickle that the she allegedly used in the killing.

Baticuang said that when Gloria was apprehended, she denied killing her mother-in-law.

She is currently detained at the Borbon Police Station and will be charged with a murder case today, said Baticuang.  (FREEMAN)
