CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial Board commended yesterday The FREEMAN’s Jean Marvette Demecillo and TV5’s King Anthony Perez for following their coronation as Mr. and Ms. Press Freedom 2014.

In an approved resolution authored by Vice Governor Agnes Magpale and co-sponsored by Board Member Grecilda Sanchez, the PB congratulated Perez and Demecillo.

Perez, who represented the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas-Cebu Chapter, is currently covering the Capitol beat while Demecillo is a Cebu City Hall beat reporter.

“Notably, they got the most coveted crowns through their simple but very impressive answers to the pageant’s final questions, answers that spell their refined characters as journalists and media personalities,” read the resolution.

Perez thanked the PB after receiving the recognition yesterday during the body’s regular session.

“An unexpected recognition, I must say,” read the words accompanying his photo with Capitol officials he uploaded to his Facebook account.

Demecillo, on the other hand, was also thankful to the body.

“I highly appreciate the initiative of Vice Governor Agnes Magpale in giving recognition to the proclaimed winners of Cebu Mr. and Ms. Press Freedom 2014. Thank you to the Provincial Board,” she said.

This year’s search for the annual Mr. and Ms. Press Freedom was held last September 20 with The FREEMAN making its grand slam win.

Two other The FREEMAN reporters, Grace Lacamiento and Jessa Agua, won the crown in 2012 and 2013, respectively. —/RHM (FREEMAN)
