Peryodismo kicks off

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The best of the best elementary and high school students from 118 public and private schools joined the on-the-spot sports writing contest that officially kicked off The Freeman Peryodismo Campus Journalism – On-the-spot writing contest.

Peryodismo is a province-wide writing skills contest for aspiring journalists. This is in partnership with the Department of Education which aims to hone and cultivate the journalistic skills of student writers and in support to the agency’s National Students Press Conference.

The contest will run from October to February 2015 with seven categories – sports writing, editorial cartooning, news writing, feature writing, editorial writing, copy reading and headline writing, and photojournalism.

Special awards and cash prizes will be given to each student per category — a computer showcase for the winning school and special prizes to coaches. — Noreen M. Tormis/NSA (FREEMAN)
