Cop has another week to show documents

Grace Melanie L. Lacamiento - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Regional Investigation and Detection Management Division (RIDMD) of the Police Regional Office–7 has agreed to give the policewoman, who allegedly misused funds intended for calamity victims, extra time to prepare the needed documents that would deny the allegations against her.

RIDMD deputy chief Superintendent Henry Biñas said that they have sent a memorandum to the policewoman last week requiring her to submit the accounting of the donations she has collected.

The initial deadline was set last Tuesday but Biñas said that the policewoman filed a motion for extension to give her ample time to comply with the memorandum.

It was in the first week of September when the national police headquarters received a text message about a complaint against a policewoman who reportedly mishandled the cash donations for the victims of the 7.2 magnitude quake in Bohol and super typhoon Yolanda last year.

Various police units in Central Visayas donated money to the victims which was collected by Regional Police Community Relations Division (RPCRD) of PRO-7 where the policewoman is detailed.

A fact-finding investigation was conducted to find out the specific amount allegedly spent by the policewoman. The investigators also checked where the money was used and who received the donation.

Biñas said that they agreed to the request of the policewoman and extended the deadline for submission of documents until Monday next week. (FREEMAN)
