CEBU, Philippines - A 32-year-old man was arrested after he grabbed the service firearm of the security guard of an Internet café along Salinas Drive in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City yesterday morning.

He allegedly tried to borrow money from the cashier of the establishment before grabbing the guard’s gun.

Daniel Besande, a native of Bislig, Surigao del Sur but currently residing in Lahug, was collared by Arnel Rosario of West Point Security Agency and turned over to the police.

SPO4 Riolito Jacalan, Mabolo Police Station investigator, said that Besande was playing a computer game when he ran out of money.

He then decided to approach the cashier to borrow money but was denied.

Jacalan said that the suspect got angry and approached Rosario.

Initial investigation showed that Besande was able to get Rosario’s .38 revolver by threatening the guard with a two-inch folding knife.

When he got the chance, Rosario fought back and recovered his firearm. He then arrested and turned over Besande to the Mobile Patrol Group led by PO3 Alberto Diamante.

The police recovered the knife from the suspect, who was initially brought to the Cebu City Medical Center after he suffered injuries during his scuffle with Rosario.

Besande is currently detained at the Mabolo Police Station stockade. (FREEMAN)
