Man indicted for “stealing” copper wires

Mylen P. Manto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor has indicted a 32-year-old man for allegedly taking away 35 meters of copper wire owned by a telecommunications company.

Prosecutor III Simaco Labata held Marvin Inso, a native of Sitio Rio, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City and presently residing in Barangay Yati, Liloan town, for trial after finding probable cause for theft. Inso chose not to file a counter-affidavit to negate the allegations filed against him during the inquest proceeding.

“…the said accused, with deliberate intent, with intent to gain and without the knowledge and consent of the owner thereof, did then and there take, steal, and carry away 35 meters copper wire 600 piers worth P52,000 belonging to Globe Telecommunications, Inc., herein represented by Manolito G. Zapata, to the damage and prejudice of the latter in the amount afore-stated,” the charged sheet reads.

Labata recommended P24,000 for Inso’s temporary liberty.

Zapata, in his sworn statement, said that on September 18, 2014 at about 8 p.m., one of the Globe Telecommunications cable watchers called him through his cellular phone informing that his co-cable watcher has caught Inso.

Inso allegedly intended to get the cable copper wires by using a steel saw and a cutter plier.

“We were on duty as cable watchers and while conducting roving patrol within our area of responsibility particularly at Sitio Nasipit, Barangay Talamban when chanced to flashlight a male person later known as Inso in plain view caught in the act of cutting off into pieces part of the 35 meters copper wire 600 piers of Globe Telecommunications, Inc, using a steel saw and a cutter plier,” their sworn statement reads.  (FREEMAN)
