BOC to auction seized vehicles today

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Bureau of Customs in Cebu is selling P1.7 million worth of confiscated vehicles during a public auction scheduled today.

BOC-Cebu legal chief Rico Rey Francis Holganza said the items had no takers during the first public bidding held on September 16.

The vehicles up for sale include Toyota Sequoia, Mitsubishi Pajero, 13  units unserviceable Toyota Vitz, Honda Fit, Pajero Mini, Suzuki Jimmy, and five units unserviceable Suzuki, Yamaha, and Honda motorcycles.

Holganza said the items are estimated to worth P1,725,587.

The nine units of Yamaha unserviceable jet skis with trailers as well as the two units of speedboats were sold at P1,823,500 during the first auction.

The auctioned items were under seizure identification No. 32-2014 claimed by T.E.S. Enterprises.

On April 1, 2014, BOC-Cebu ordered the forfeiture of imported items seized from T.E.S. Enterprises in Yati, Liloan, Cebu after the claimant failed to show payment of customs taxes and duties for the goods.

In a decision dated April 1, 2014, Holganza said that  failure of the claimant to present evidence of payment for the foreign articles displayed openly for sale violates Section 2536 in relation to Section 2530 (g) of the Tariff and Customs Code of the Philippines, as amended.  (FREEMAN)
