CCPO holds drug seminar in school

CEBU, Philippines - As part of its week-long celebration of the 20th National Crime Prevention Week, Cebu City Police Office conducted a drug symposium in a school and put stickers on public vehicles that provides hotline numbers.

CCPO’s Police Community Relations personnel led by Chief Inspector Enrique Belciña proceeded to mall terminals on Tuesday and attached stickers on Public Utility Jeepneys and taxis.

Belciña said the sticker campaign, which was initiated by CCPO director Noli Romana, is in response to the series of robbery incidents inside public vehicles particularly jeepneys.

 “This is one of the preventive measures nato tungod kay dunay mga incidents nga nahitabo nga daghang mga pasahero nga gi-hold up. Ato ning gihimo as countermeasures sa nahitabo aron dili na mausab,” Belciña said.

The stickers, Belciña said, provide contact numbers – Globe hotline No. 09063903402 and Sun Cellular hotline No. 09428057699 – where the public can contact in case of a robbery or other crimes they spot in the streets.

The PCR chief assured that any information given will be treated with utmost secrecy and confidentiality.

Ranol Quipo, a jeepney driver, was pleased with CCPO’s initiative, saying it is better for both the passengers and drivers to know what to do in case robbers will strike inside jeepneys.

PCR personnel still led by Belciña discussed the ill effects of illegal drugs in a drug symposium they conducted at City Central School yesterday. Belciña said they also received a favorable response from the grade six students and the teachers, who asked the police to hold another symposium in the future.

“Ganahan sila nga ma-sustain ang programa. Maghimo mi’g memorandum of understanding nga mahimo na nga regular ang symposium against illegal drugs,” Belciña said.

He said San Nicholas Elementary School also expressed its willingness to undergo the same symposium upon learning that they conducted the same at City Central School.

Today, another batch of grade six students will undergo the symposium, which features a short movie showing the bad effects of illegal drug abuse.

The police also present to the students the “five commandments against illegal drugs” formulated by former Dangerous Drugs Board Undersecretary Clarence Paul Oaminal.

According to Belciña, what they are doing would still be useless without the cooperation of the public, as he called on them to support the police in its fight against illegal drugs.

“Gihangyo ang ilang full cooperation, aron masulbad nga mikatap na ang illegal drug trade,” said Belciña.  (FREEMAN)
