Almost 5T to take Customs exam today

CEBU, Philippines - A total of 4,755 applicants for positions at the Bureau of Customs will be taking the general ability and competency exam today, which will be administered by the Civil Service Commission.

An exam will also be administered in Cebu.

The examinees include current BOC employees who have applied for promotion and new applicants who aspire for the 1,056 positions at the Bureau’s main office and various collection districts throughout the country.

In a statement, BOC said 88 percent of the examinees applied for non-supervisory positions while 12 percent applied for supervisory or managerial positions.

About 75 percent of the total number of examinees will be taking the exam in different locations in Metro Manila including the St. Joseph’s College in Quezon City (E. Rodriguez Ave, Quezon City); St. Theresa’s College in Quezon City, Siena College in Quezon City; and Angelicum College in Quezon  City.

In Cebu, the exam will be held at St. Theresa’s College while in the exam in Davao will be administered at the University of Mindanao – Matina Campus. 

Those who will pass the general ability and competency exam today will move to the second round of tests, which will focus on specific exams that would determine if the applicant will fit the position applied for.

The general ability and competency exam was developed by the CSC specifically for the BOC.

Earlier, the BOC said many of the applicants who were disqualified because they did not have the appropriate civil service eligibility, professional license or credential from the Professional Regulations Commission, Philippine National Police or the Philippine Bar, under the Supreme Court.

Several were also disqualified outright because they have relatives working at the BOC. Those with relatives in the bureau up to the fourth degree of consanguinity are disqualified from working there.  (FREEMAN)
