Dry run on Capitol’s inner road as detour Friday
CEBU, Philippines - Authorities will hold Friday a dry run on the use of Gov. M. Roxas Street, the access road inside the Capitol compound, as diversion route for vehicular traffic to M. Velez Street in Guadalupe, Cebu City.
Provincial Information Officer Ethel Natera said that if everything would go well, opening of the street as an access road would push through.
“Madayon na gyod kung okay na tanan, then diretso-diretso na,” she said, adding that the only concern they have to watch out for in conducting the dry run is the number of vehicles.
As preparation, signs would be placed in conspicuous places along Osmeña Boulevard and on Escario Street today and tomorrow for the dry run.
The street would be opened as diversion route to support the Department of Public Works and Highways’ road and pavement concreting project of N. Escario St. up to the M. Velez Street bridge.
Jeepneys, taxis, private cars and other light vehicles bound for M. Velez Street can use the access road by turning right from Escario St. to the Capitol compound, passing through the road between the Marcelo Fernan Hall of Justice and the Legislative Building.
Natera, however, said Gov. M. Roxas Street would only be open from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
She said the contractor is expected this Sunday to start the project, which is expected to take 25 days.
The dry run was decided yesterday during a meeting attended by the Cebu provincial government, the Cebu City Traffic Operations Management, and contractor JJ and J Construction Supply.
Under the conditions for the opening of the access road that have been agreed by the concerned parties, there will be no loading and unloading of passengers inside the Capitol compound, the road will be open to one-way traffic only, no blowing of horns, and a 15 kilometers per hour speed limit should be observed.
CITOM personnel and police officers will be deployed in the area to maintain smooth traffic flow and peace and order.—(FREEMAN)
