LPA won’t affect Cebu, says weather bureau
CEBU, Philippines - While heavy rainfall was experienced by some areas in Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration Visayas chief Oscar Tabada said that Cebu and the rest of Central Visayas are not affected by the low pressure area.
Tabada said that while there will be a sunny weather this morning, there will be cloudy skies this afternoon with light rain showers in the evening.
He added that Central Visayas will experience cloudy with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon or in the evening from Thursday until Sunday.
PAGASA Mactan chief Al Quiblat also said that Region-7 may experience sudden burst of isolated heavy rain of short duration and may also be associated with other features of thunderstorm.
The state weather bureau also reported that there were light to moderate rain showers last night. As of 4 p.m. yesterday, the low pressure area was estimated at 50 kilometers south of Infanta, Quezon.
Tabada, however, reminded the public to be vigilant on possible landslides and flooding. He also warned them against common illnesses such as cough and colds especially during rainy weather.
Bringing of umbrellas is also advised.
PAGASA issued an orange rainfall warning advisory for Metro Manila and six provinces in Luzon yesterday afternoon.
The orange rainfall advisory means intense downpour (15 to 30 millimeters) has been observed in an hour and is expected to continue in the next two hours.
PAGASA issued the advisory for Metro Manila, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Laguna and Quezon.
Flooding is threatening in these areas, according to the state weather bureau.
Meanwhile, a yellow rainfall advisory is still effective for the provinces of Zambales, Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac and Nueva Ecija.
PAGASA said flooding is possible in the low lying areas of these provinces.
The agency had said a low pressure area (LPA) will continue to dump rains in some parts of the country.
The LPA located in the vicinity of Alabat, Quezon at 10 a.m. will bring light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Bicol Region, Southern Luzon, Central Luzon and the provinces Of Pangasinan, Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon.
"Residents in these areas and local disaster risk reduction management councils concerned are advised to be alert and take all the necessary precautionary measures and monitor updates on the weather disturbance," PAGASA said in earlier advisory. — Grace Melanie I.
