Man on bench shot dead

CEBU, Philippines - A man who was just sitting on a bench inside a shanty sustained multiple gunshot wounds after being shot dead by an unknown assailant in Sitio Bhokyol, Poblacion III, Carcar City, past 7 p.m. on Monday night.

Francisco Carillo, of Sitio Sebuyan, Barangay Cansuje, Argao town was pronounced dead on arrival in the hospital due to multiple gunshot wounds that he sustained from an unknown gunman.

Initial investigation revealed that past 7 p.m. on Monday, the victim together with the shanty’s owner was sitting on a bench in Barangay Poblacion.

Few minutes later, an unknown gunman riding a motorcycle shot the victim several times and then fled away.

Concerned citizens called Carcar City police after several gun bursts were heard and the police immediately responded to the report.

Responding policemen saw the victim lying apparently lifeless so they and some civilian volunteers brought the victim to Carcar Provincial Hospital for immediate medical treatment.

Upon reaching the hospital the attending physician declared the victim dead on arrival due to multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators recovered 26 empty shells and six slugs and one live ammo of.45 cal. pistol at the crime scene.

They also recovered the victim’s wallet containing P1,640 cash and several identification cards and a receipt.

Investigators were also able to recover an abandoned motorcycle 50 meters away from the crime scene with a plate number 5446 NZ.

They are yet to verify if the motorcycle had something to do with the shooting incident.

Police investigators are still conducting further investigation regarding the identity of the gunman to determine the motive of the crime. — (FREEMAN)
