Woman leaps to death from Fernan bridge

Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A 36-year-old woman died after jumping off the Marcelo Fernan Bridge past 2 p.m. yesterday.

Angeline Dimpas, a resident of Zone Sibuyas, Barangay Paknaan, Mandaue City, was declared dead on arrival at the Mandaue City District Hospital.

PO2 Martin Auman of the Opao Police Station said that the woman was allegedly suffering from nervous breakdown.

Leah Dimpas, the woman’s aunt, told the police that her niece would usually stroll around the Pajara Park underneath the Marcelo Fernan Bridge every time her illness strikes.

Auman said the family is already used to fetching the woman at the park.

However, Leah said they did not expect her niece to jump off the bridge.

The incident was witnessed by an ice cream vendor who immediately shouted for help. Some fishermen then responded and tried to rescue Angeline.

Paramedics of the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation arrived and brought the woman to the hospital where she was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician. (FREEMAN)
