PAGASA: Metro Cebu to expect occasional heavy downpour today

CEBU, Philippines - Metro Cebu will experience occasional heavy rains today, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration in Mactan.

 Weather specialist Joey Figuracion said that even if “Henry” will not make a landfall it would still develop the southwest monsoon or “habagat” causing isolated rains.

Figuracion said that everyone should not be complacent with the “habagat” since it translates more chances of heavy rains and strong winds.

“Risky talaga yung travelling ngayon sa dagat kasi maalon, pati yung elevated areas that are landslide prone areas should be monitored,” he said.

He said that Cebu and Visayas should brace for the possible effects brought by the seventh tropical storm that entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

However, he stressed that on July 22 and 23 “Henry” would be totally out of PAR.

“Monindot na gyod atong weather ug naa na gyoy init sad ana,” Figuracion said, adding that “Henry” is heading Taiwan today.

Meanwhile, Cebu City Councilor David Tumulak said that strong winds brought by habagat will be experienced today based on their weather monitoring.

“Nipaspas man gud si Henry padulong sa Northern Luzon, maong kusog gyod ang hangin niya. Karon (July 20), 15 kph siya ug mas mokusog pana ugma (July 21),” said Tumulak, chairperson of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

Tumulak, however, said there were no reported untoward incidents, so far.

“Nagsige mi og monitor sa mga barangays labi na sa mga bukid nga landslide prone areas, so far, wala gyod tay mga reported incidents pa,” he said.

Although, he said everyone should not be complacent and be ready all the time.

Acting Mayor Edgardo Labella said that the Quick Response Team and the CDRRMC is monitoring 24 hours.

“Every now and then, nag-monitor ta sa mga kasapaan, creeks, ug kadtong mga landslide prone areas,” he said. (FREEMAN)
