Alcoseba supporting 1st district division
CEBU, Philippines - While most officials from the first district disapprove of the idea to split the district into two, Provincial Board Member Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba agrees with it, saying it would benefit the constituents.
“Kung ako, para nako, wa man sad ko’y (opposition). Mas maayo tingali (if the district is split up) para ma-address ang kadaghanan (problems),” said Alcoseba in an interview with reporters.
Alcoseba, a member of the ruling Liberal Party and one of the two representatives of the first district in the Provincial Board, said that the district is one of the biggest in terms of population.
The first district has three cities (Talisay, Naga and Carcar) and three towns (Minglanilla, San Fernando and Sibonga).
But the initiative “should come from the congressman,” he said. “Kung ako’y Congressman Samsam Gullas, I will not sponsor a bill that will divide my district into two.”
Alcoseba was insinuating that the bigger the district the bigger the “kickbacks” would be.
Alcoseba said that in the case of the second district, former representative Pablo Garcia proposed to split the district because he was thinking of having another member of the family in the new district.
“Kay huna-huna nila butangan og lain nga paryente,” Alcoseba said.
Garcia lost to Rep. Wilfredo Caminero in the last elections. Caminero re-filed Garcia’s bill which was already approved in the House.
“Kung ma-split nana kinsay molangsad?” Alcoseba said, hinting a name of a last-termer mayor in the second district.— (FREEMAN)
